The People Behind the Show
Three musicians. Three decades. One obsessive commitment to getting it right every single night.
Bass · Vocals · Founder — Est. 1992
Ron's musical journey started with a Harmony acoustic guitar at thirteen and a friend teaching him "Louie, Louie." He was hooked. Saving money from cleaning fish tanks, he bought a Harmony bass and never looked back — spending his high school years teaching rock songs to classmates instead of focusing on orchestra pieces.
After graduation, Ron dove into Chicago's local rock scene, eventually forming Dr. Bizzaro and the Disgustos — a band blending punk energy with theatrical flair that earned national attention with features in Rolling Stone and Hot Rod magazine. Later, fronting Triple Threat brought him deep into ZZ Top's gritty blues-rock universe, and he saw an opportunity nobody had taken: a truly world-class ZZ Top tribute based in Chicago.
In 1992, Ron grew out his beard, embraced the persona, and founded Eliminator. Over thirty years later, he's still at the center of it — and that beard hasn't stopped growing since.
Drums — Chicago, IL
Born in Chicago, Kelly's story began in 1963 when his older brother received a Ludwig drum set for physical therapy. Young Kelly would sneak in practice sessions, hammering out rock rhythms to his brother's record collection. That fire hasn't gone out in over six decades.
His career reads like a tour of American music history: disco and lounge acts in the 1970s, performances alongside legendary bassist Felton Crews and Rusty Taylor of Miami Sound Machine, and years playing in Lake Tahoe alongside Pat Mastelatto — who later joined King Crimson. Back in Chicago from 1985, Kelly spent two decades in Cubes, 12 years with the Greg Favata Orchestra, and countless shows across the city's rich live music scene.
When he auditioned for Eliminator, he dove headfirst into Frank Beard's catalog. Fifty years into a career built on relentless rhythm, Kelly brings the kind of pocket groove you simply can't fake.
Guitar — Originally from England
David's guitar journey began in England, shaped by Stratocaster masters — Hendrix, Frusciante, McCready. His first guitar was a beautiful second-hand 1980s Japanese Strat that he still plays to this day. As his playing developed, he became equally fascinated by the precision of session legends like Steve Lukather, Paul Jackson Jr., and Dann Huff, and the virtuosity of players like Eric Johnson, Shawn Lane, and Guthrie Govan — the latter becoming a personal mentor for a formative period.
After studying at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM), David made a bold move to the US, where joining Eliminator became a turning point. What began as local gigs quickly escalated to coast-to-coast touring. One career highlight stands above the rest: performing at the United Center in Chicago during a Blackhawks game — in front of over 20,000 fans in the arena, and 1.5 million watching live on TV.
Every night with Eliminator, David channels his decades of diverse influences into the blues-rock fire that made ZZ Top legendary. He makes it look effortless. It isn't.
